You can work for Monroe Organic Farms by working on the farm or as a distribution center.
Working on the Farm
Choose to work on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday mornings. Beginning in June and ending in October, we start work at 7 a.m. and work four hours. You get one week off in the months of July, August, and September.
Basic responsibilities are:
- Counting, sorting, and bagging produce
- Loading trucks with member shares
- Cleaning the distribution area or barn
- Other assorted chores
Other chores can include planting, hoeing, harvesting or cleaning produce, feeding animals, and other miscellaneous chores.
Working as a Distribution Center
Distribution hours are at least two hours, preferable from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The hours can be extended but cannot be shortened.
Basic responsibilities are:
- Hold unclaimed produce at distribution centers for 24 hours. After 24 hours, it can be given to places of need (soup kitchens, homeless shelters, women's shelters, nursing homes, or food banks) or it can be given one time to neighbors interested in the farm in exchange for their names and address.
- Help unload the truck upon delivery of the produce (15-20 minutes).
- Contact members via telephone at the beginning of the season and or special orders or breakdowns.
- Pass out and collect (if necessary) newsletters and surveys.
- Keep records on all members who collect farm products and collect funds for eggs when needed.
